Why “Colliding With the Future” ?

decision_making“Life is the sum of all of your choices” – Albert Camus

“If you can control the process of choosing, you can take control of all aspects of your life. You can find the freedom that comes from being in charge of yourself.” – Robert F. Bennett

Our lives are a never ending series of crossroads. Some of the roads we choose are based on intuition; at other times we make informed, rational decisions. Many times, our decisions are based on subconscious and unconscious habits, or unexamined beliefs.

Your decisions are thoughts. The thoughts you create have the ability to change the physical structure of your brain. Neuroplasticity, your brains ability to re-wire itself, tells us that the neuronal connections of your brain are altered by your thoughts. Your mind and brain are inseparable. Changing your habitual thought patterns will deeply change your brain. Change your brain and you change your life. Improve your decision making skills and you will be more likely to make better life choices. Make decisions based on faulty assumptions and your decisions will be faulty too.

rewire_the_brain“Colliding With the Future” is a curated magazine devoted to the “science of changing the mind and brain. It collects the best and features articles on lifestyle options you can use to maintain, and improve, your brain and life.

• Learn how you can maintain a healthy, efficient brain, and understand how your brain can work for or against you.

• Remember that your brain is part of your body. Activities that promote a healthy, fit body also help sharpen your brain – physical exercise enhances neurogenesis.

• Develop good nutritional habits. The brain has only 2% of your body’s mass but uses over 20% of the oxygen and nutrients you consume.

• Learn how to practice a mindful, positive mind set.

• Reduce stress. Stress kills neurons and prevents neurogenesis, the opposite of exercise!

• Thrive on learning and mental challenges. Exploration and travel require your brain to adapt to new situations.

• Laugh often. Humor is good for your brain.

• Make your own decisions, AND mistakes. Learn from your mistakes. Think for yourself. Develop your critical and creative thinking skills.

• Develop the motivation to want to make decisions that will improve your future.

“Thinking is what a great many people believe they are doing when they are merely rearranging their prejudices.” – William James
